Who can be a client? Aegin Place clients are usually capable of independent living at some level. The free initial assessment is central to matching clients with a live-in companion. A contractual arrangement is designed to focus on the tasks needed to allow the client to "age in place’" a goal we all embrace. Aegin Place will not support a placement that becomes medical in nature, unless partnered with an agency that provides medical personnel with the appropriate licenses. If your self-sufficient status in your own home is important to you, then you can become a client.
Who can be a companion? Aegin Place companions must be a citizen of the United States and have a current driver’s license. Proof of formal training in first aid, CPR and procedures for working with older adults is preferred. Aegin Place companions undergo extensive background investigation before they are considered for placement as a live-in home companion.
What can a live-in companion do for a client? Our companions are trained in the elder care field to provide assistance with the activities of daily living. Live-in companions can provide a variety of services to our clients. Some of those services can include:
- Provide companionship
- Meal preparation
- Light housekeeping
- Errand service
- Grocery shopping
- Transportation services
- Laundry and linen washing
- Recreational activities
- Grooming and dressing assistance
- Periodic review with family
- Assistance with bill paying and correspondence
- Bathing
- Transferring/Toileting
What is the matching process? When we are first contacted we offer a free initial assessment that determines that the client’s needs are compatible with our capacity to deliver non-medical companion services in the home. Our goal is to make a good match between the client and the live-in companion. Once we have selected a live-in companion candidate there is a formal contractual review session for all interested parties. Before placement can occur, we have at least two formal companion interviews. Aegin Place supports the placement of the companion by traditional on-going case management which is intensely monitored for the first 30 days. After that time there are twice monthly reviews to oversee the live-in companion and the level of care. Should the level of care increase markedly, then there is a reevaluation of the care services contract.
